Lila was 16. Always smiling, always showing up. Good grades, funny Snap stories, quick to check in on her friends. To the outside world, she was fine. What no one saw were the silent tears, the racing thoughts at night, and the pressure of holding it all together—for everyone but herself.
At home, she kept peace during arguments. At school, she was the one others leaned on. But no one ever asked how she was really doing. The truth? She was exhausted. Anxious. Drained. And scared to let anyone down.
One random Wednesday, everything cracked. Her chest tightened. Her vision blurred. In the middle of school, she rushed to the bathroom and collapsed onto the floor, unable to breathe. That’s when her friend Maya walked in. She didn’t freak out. She didn’t ask for explanations. She just sat with her.
That simple act—being there—was the beginning of everything changing.
Later, Lila told a teacher. Then a counsellor. For the first time, she admitted out loud: “I need help.” It wasn’t easy. But it was real. And it was the first step toward healing.
If you’re carrying more than you can handle, you don’t have to wait until you break.
You’re allowed to talk. You’re allowed to ask for help. You are not alone.
